Home furnishings for your property in Cape Verde can be obtained from a number of shops. Most of the Chinese shops will have some goods, but if you are looking for quality and something to match your colour scheme you may find it difficult unless you buy most of the items from one of the main furniture suppliers.
Some of the suppliers may stock bed linen, shower curtains, throws, standard lamp, reading lamp etc.
Some stores will sell more white goods on the main islands than on the smaller islands. There are stores such as Socol and LG where they will have small, large fridges or fridge freezes, microwaves, electric or gas ovens, hobs etc. There are new stores importing goods from Italy and Portugal in the main. Occasionaly you may find some second hand goods for sale on Facebook. You may need to shop around for particular items, unless again you use one of the Furniture Suppliers who have shipped these goods in from abroad. Then there are the Chinese shops selling more of the same. Quality, standards, safety and guarantees will need to be considered.
Again, take into consideration make, model, standards. If so you may need good power surge adaptors to help protect fridges, laptops, microwaves etc from power surges after power cuts. Some electrical goods (including extension) leads should be bought from a reputable supplier. Cheap items have been known to become faulty and sometimes dangerous, it's better to be safe than sorry!. Expats sometimes bring their own power surge adapters from their home country. Don't forget travel plugs too.
When people leave Cape Verde for break in Europe or elsewhere, they sometimes buy extra luggage weight for the return journey back to Sal. They then purchase electrical or other goods abroad, unpack and re-pack them well and then place them in the extra luggage for the return journey. if it fits in case! Keeping new items in original boxes will attract more attention from Customs, if items are unpacked after purchase, possibly used once or twice then re-packed, they are no longer 'new' items subject to custom tax. You can remove sale price tags, guarantees and keep separately.
There are some supplies of kitchens on the islands or you can have a new kitchen designed. Again these suppliers are mainly based on the more populated islands but items can be shipped over from one island to another. There are also kitchen fitters and carpenters who will measure and fit the kitchen. You can wok with the suppliers to see what design would be best to accommodate white goods and storage units.
This could include mainly imported goods:
Please check out the a suppliers on the top of page to see who provides which items or service.
Other items that have been shipped in are gas BBQ's, some Management Agencies or owners will stipulate that only gas BBQ's can be used on the premises.
We are looking into suppliers of fire extinguishers.
Please consider insurance for your holiday home in Cape Verde. Even if you don't rent out your property, other people will rent theirs out.
Having an apartment or property left empty doesn't mean that you will be safe from having damage caused to your property here , there is always a chance that damage to your property will occur as a result of smoke, fire, water damage from a neighbours property.
They may not have insurance!
