Boa Vista
Only a 15minute flight from Sal. May 07:
On flying over the island before landing I know exactly what people mean when the say "but there's nothing there".
We can pick out the main town of Sal Rei and a number of developments on the outskirts of the town. A number of hotels further down the coast. The rest of the land 'is just land', I prob won't be saying that in 10yrs though, when the developments have started changing the face of the landscape.
December 07: The new passenger terminal at Boa Vista is now open. It was built using local stone making it look like an old fortress. It has one floor and a central interior space. It now receives passengers from some international flights which arrive on the island, now that the airstrip has been extended to some 2,100metres.
With the completion of the new Riu Hotel in 2008, the island is now receiving many more tourists.
Also note: if you are going on an organised trip and excursion on the island : make sure you take plenty of sun cream & use it, take fluids and something to use to cover yourself if it is windy, as excursions normally use an open Aluger (truck) and you may be required to sit on the back...its a very bumpy uneven track to take you to Santa Monica beach (50mins each way).
