Web hosting and designBoth websites have now transferred to a new web host. The system they use was chosen as it gives me more freedom to change and update functions myself. I am still learning about what I can do with Sitewalk, E-Commerce, Marketing and 101 other things I can do to improve these websites. Being over here in Cape Verde means that I can make these changes myself without waiting for someone else to do them, and charging me for it. Don't get me wrong, I still have to pay a monthly fee for using the system but I manage it. There are also online tutorials and a help centre. You can also buy a bsic website for £149. This will be built for you. There are more options available. Take a look at it yourself: www.eclipseonlinesolutions.com |

Cape Verde News - Posts:
March 2010 - As stated above, we have RSS Feeds. These will be placed on both the websites. Some will have secure Zones, meaning you will need to register to access them (no charge). Others will be freelya accessible. Similar to the literature at the end of this page. Subjects such as 'A Municipality for Santa Maria' within the RSS feed will be updated as and when information is received.
March 2010 - We are aiming to re-start the 'Properties' Section within the Cape Verde Tips website. A number of changes will be made and pricing and terms and conditions will be formalised.
February 2010 - The Expat Newsletter has become the main feed for local news on Sal, but we are encouraging others to send in information from other islands, but this is proving to be hard to obtain. We have also started a Facebook page for both the Expats Cape Verde website and the Cape Verde Tips website. A number of people have sent in photographs of significance, such as the ones sent in by Linda Aspden recently of Humbacks and the rarely seen Gervais' Beaked Whales which have been placed within the photo galleries, together with some further albums on other activities. Thanks to everyone that has contributed to the Blogs, Newsletter and Forum on the Expats website.
If you wish to register to receive the Expat Newsletter, please register here : EXPAT NEWSLETTER

9th March 09: Just to update you on the Vets appeal. With the fantastic help of Helen from Blu Bar we have reached our required number of volunteer Vets to come here and implement the neutering programme. They will be coming in July and August.
I have some hotels onboard providing some accommodation however, if anyone has a free apartment for 2 weeks during these two months, and would like to donate it to us ( or for longer) we would be very grateful. If you have and would like to help could you let me know what dates they are free.
Many thanks

Jennifer Figge’s swim across the Atlantic ends in disaster for the catamaran - …………………………..
Statement from Jennifer Figge spokesman David Higdon:
On Thursday, Feb. 12, at approximately 1:15 p.m. local time, the catamaran carrying Jennifer Figge and crew suffered severe damage to both hulls when it was washed up against shoreline rocks and slowly sunk just off the Tobago coast. Figge and all members of the crew were unhurt and safely evacuated. It was not a life-threatening situation. Much of the material and equipment onboard was lost or damaged.
The catamaran had traveled on Wednesday, Feb. 11, from Trinidad to Tobago island, where it had been anchored overnight. While moving to a new location, the accident occurred.
William Ray, the captain/co-owner of the boat, the crew and Figge are all deeply saddened by these events but relieved that no one was seriously hurt during the accident and subsequent attempts to salvage the boat and its contents.
Jennifer thanks everyone for the interest and support provided throughout her adventure, and her priority at the moment is supporting the captain and crew as they assess the damage and determine next steps.
Personal note from Sal: All those that met Jennifer on Sal before she commenced her swim are all disappointed for her, but glad everyone is ok.
For more news visit Jennifer Figge’s Facebook web page………….
Poisoning Solution - An email request from Jackie Costello, an Expat living on Sal :
I met with the Environment Minister for Sal Island, Cape Verde this morning and I got him to agree to stop putting out poison for dogs and cats, hopefully we will get a new law to prosecute anyone caught poisoning, he has also agreed to give me some land and to build a shelter on it. AND to get a mobile clinic to go around the island and neuter the animals !
Vets required: Not a bad mornings work.......... however, for my part I agreed to get some vets over here to do the neutering, it will take approx 4 vets a month including aftercare . The minister has also agreed to get special one - three month visas for the vets.
We can get the accommodation for them, but not their plane fares and the equipment and medical equipment needed. I was hoping to get the vets here by June 30th………
I know an organisation offered to come out here 2 years ago and do this but the government would not allow them, do you know who they were ? or do you know any organisations that could help at all?
I am looking here on the web for would vet organisations etc.
Any help at all or information would be very much appreciated.
If anyone in the UK, Ireland or other countries can help, please contact Jackie Costello by email on : jaqqi@hotmail.com
